  8. Q1:  How does Hybrid's Point of Presence (PoP) in Washington DC relate to
  9. Hybrid's announced trials with Intel and General Instrument?
  10.  
  11. A1:  Hybrid's PoP in Washington, DC is a separate venture from the PoPs it will
  12. be installing as part of the Intel/General Instrument relationship.  However,
  13. the DC installation is synergistic with the goals of the Intel/ General
  14. Instrument activities.  Initially, the most cost effective method to distribute
  15. the high-speed data channels to the various cable head ends throughout a
  16. particular metropolitan area is by using a wireless distribution scheme.  This
  17. scheme is very similar to the way that the cable TV industry receives its
  18. existing video programming over satellite channels.  Hybrid has a similar
  19. system operating in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  21. Q2:  How does the wireless technology being used at George Washington
  22. University differ from the cable technology in the Intel CableLink product?
  23.  
  24. A2:  Both technologies deliver data to the remote personal computer at 10 Mbps,
  25. but the wireless system requires an antenna to receive the wireless signal.
  26. Similar Hybrid Remote Link Adapters are used to receive the high-speed data via
  27. cable or wireless.  The main difference between technologies is that the
  28. wireless system uses either a PSTN or ISDN return channel.  The Intel CableLink
  29. product uses an upstream cable return channel.

  31. Q3:  Will the Washington, DC cable operators be involved?
  32.  
  33. A3:  Yes.  The initial phase of the project is wireless, but all of the
  34. Washington DC cable TV operators are being contacted.  As discussed before,
  35. Hybrid plans to use the same wireless signal to feed the different cable head
  36. ends throughout the greater Washington DC area.  When the number of subscribers
  37. reaches hundreds of users per cable TV head end, Hybrid may choose to use
  38. dedicated point to point fiber connections to reach each cable TV head end.

  40. Q4:  What applications will be delivered by the wireless HAS in Washington, DC?
  41. Consumer or professional applications?
  42.  
  43. A4:  Professional and educational applications will be the focus of this
  44. wireless system. Early users are primarily expected to be small offices and
  45. schools. The types of professional applications being promoted include
  46. telecommuting, high-speed Internet access, teleradiology, real estate and other
  47. professional imaging and data base access applications that require high-speed
  48. data connections.

  50. Q5:  Is this a two-way, full duplex service?
  51.  
  52. A5:  It is a two-way, full duplex service.  The wireless service will use radio
  53. frequencies for the downstream connection and telephone for the upstream
  54. connection.  The cable service that follows will use telephone lines as the
  55. upstream connection until local cable TV operators upgrade their systems to
  56. two-way capability.  At that time, Hybrid will upgrade its service to two-way
  57. over cable.

  59. Q6:  Who will run the PoP and services?
  60.  
  61. A6:  Hybrid will run the PoP and its related services.

  63. Q7:  How do customers buy RLA's and order this new service?
  64.  
  65. A7:  Hybrid is currently working with Value Added Resellers in the Washington,
  66. DC area to establish a local sales and service capability.  In the interim, all
